The Benbulben hotel gets its name from the curiously shaped and flat-topped legendary mountain of Benbulben which lies a few miles north of the town of Sligo. Benbulben, with its legendary associations with Diarmuid and Grainne, those classic lovers of Irish antiquity, is an epic amongst Irish mountains. On its slopes Diarmuid met his death while taking part in a boar hunt, and is buried beneath Benbulben "s brow, not far from Drumcliffe where lies the remains of William Butler Yeats. Yeats tells of the great door in Benbuben's face which opens now and then to allow 'the out-rush of the great fairy host to spread over Connact'. Benbulben with its rich profusion of Alpine plants has
attracted the attention of tourists from home and abroad.
